Vision

An Empowered, Free and Just Society

Immediate Objectives

-- To educate rural communities of the Southern Province on issues of law, human rights,
HIV/AIDS, gender analysis/awareness, and corruption; and to provide information to
women, children, youth and the poor about their legal rights.

-- To promote and protect human rights, law and development among the vulnerable
communities in the Southern Province of Zambia by providing community-based forums so
that community members may speak out and respond to issues affecting their lives.

-- To provide practical legal assistance to victims of human rights violations, child abuse and
corruption.

-- To empower children to report any form of abuse perpetrated against them or a fellow
child directly to the police independently of the parents or guardians.

-- To support poverty reduction strategies identified by rural communities, especially by
and for women's groups for sustainable food security and income generation activities at
household levels.

-- To enhance the organizational capacity of LADA.

Structure

LADA is a membership organization, divided into 23 area associations all based within
Zambia's Southern Province. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors. Under
our constitution, the position of Board Chairperson will always be held by a woman. The
Secretariat, located in Monze Town, oversees the coordination of LADA activities within the
area associations and provides administrative support.

Our work is funded with the generous financial support of partners as well as through a
member-based subscription system. Community members wishing to participate in
decision-making and community-led income generating activities initiated by LADA join as
members and pay an initial fee of K10,000. The annual membership fee is K5,000,
thereafter. Thirty-percent of an area association's membership fees are remitted to the
Secretariat.
